entertainmentfunWith the emergence of new home game video consoles in the market today, having fun in the house has risen up into a higher new level. Entertainment will never be the same again. There is a tight competition between these new games consoles: Sony’s Play Station 3, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, and Nintendo’s Wii. They are among the products which aim for their bragging right to be the next big thing.

These inventions are the most in-demand toys in the market today. However, with the increasing consciousness to health and fitness of the consumers nowadays, there is but one product that standout; that is the Wii Fit – a video game or software for Nintendo’s Wii for those fitness enthusiasts’ gamers out there.

With Nintendo’s Wii, you can just play any sports, there is under the sun with its unique remote control and wireless controller. You can play tennis and boxing, to mention a few. What really amazes is how Wii can enthrall people with its almost real-time wireless reaction to the gamers’ movements. Well, it’s Nintendo’s trademark secret after all; they will not divulge any information that would risk their edge over their competitors.

Now, fun and fitness are combined into one with Nintendo’s Wii Fit. It is an exercise video game developed by Nintendo for its console Wii. This is more fun than just watching some demo CD’s for taebo, boxing, yoga and the likes. The games are focused mainly on exercise activities.

The secret lies in the application that this game is using – a unique platform called the Wii Balance board. Aside from different exercise activities it can show, it can also calculate one’s body mass index (BMI) with just the user’s height as input. There are about 50 different exercises that are available in its database. It includes push up exercises, yoga poses, some training for the muscles, and body and strength training. Also, Wii Fit can allow players to take the body test and then compare the results later. It can also track the “Wii Fit Age” of the users using the results of the body testing with the player’s current age, weight, and athletic ability.

Wii Fit is more like an All-in-One gym inside the house. With this game, the activities are divided into categories just like the training or the exercise program in the gym. The following are the categories and its sample trainings:

  • Extension of the Single Leg
  • Lifting of the Leg Sideways

As such, Wii Fit holds a score of 80% on game rankings. It has sold a quarter of a million prior to its first week of release. It has also been outsold in Amazon .com and Wal-Mart in its pre-release in the US. A year after its release, it has become the third best-selling video game in the game console history with about 21.82 million copies sold as of June 2009.

There is a study now that Wii Fit is being used for medical therapy like the physiotherapy rehabilitation in some health clubs around the world.

It is not just a game for everyone to enjoy but is also a sure way of taking away the boredom; and as the video game name implies, it would help wash away extra fat in the body.  Innovations and ideas like this are worth every penny a consumer pays.
